Pierre Lavagane de castellan

The origins of our environmental organization.

Since 1981 in Maui, Hawaii, Shelltone Whale Project's mission has been to play, improvise, co-write and record music with whales, sublimating through this joint creation the fundamentals of inter-species communication with cetaceans. The research laid the foundations of the Shelltone Whale Project environmental organization's mission.

Shelltone Whale Project, an environmental organization recognized as being of public interest for its acoustic research into cetacean communication, was founded by Pierre Lavagne de Castellan, a marine bioacoustician and ethologist.

These years of research into the intimacy of the animals, and their deepest feelings about our presence among them, have enabled us to develop a non-aggressive approach technique, extremely effective because the animals are confident.

The problem of abusive whale watching

Abusive whale watching poses serious problems for cetacean welfare. The practice of watching whales and other cetaceans up close has become an uncontrolled tourist industry, with many boats invading their natural habitats.

Non-respectful approaches disturb the animals, causing stress, behavioral changes, loss of appetite and even abandonment of their territories.. In search of thrills to satisfy tourists, certain operators neglect regulations and best practices, The company's new plant is a major threat to these sensitive species.

It is therefore essential to promote responsible practices to preserve the tranquility and survival of cetaceans! This is our mission.
